Prehistoric Creatures Sculptures Now Part of the Permanent Display in the Elgin Public Museum

Tonight the Elgin Public Museum had its grand re-opening preview.

If you have never been to this modest museum, it feels as if you are walking around parts of the Field museum in Chicago! It’s a lovely spot nestled in Elgin’s Lord’s Park.

So much wildlife, geology, natural history, artistic displays, and stories all presented in this tiny magnificent space.

Mike Rende sculpted and donated four ancient prehistoric aquatic creatures who are now displayed along with their historical info and actual fossils. One of them, the tullimonstrum (aka: “tully monster”) has only been found in Illinois. This creature lived here when Illinois was underwater around 310 million years ago.

The new display case that has now become part of the museum’s permanent collection.
